Latest Trend On the metro UI of windows 8. everyone is giving their reviews on it the nice and easy interface yet it is hard to get use to at once for many of slow learners. i find many registry Hacks in windows 8 yet only a few are useful and the win 8 can also be customized according to user i'll provide how and some basic Hacks in this post.

1) Change No. of Rows :-

Directory:- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell\Grid

- Create a DWORD (32-bit) Value named : Layout_MaximumRowCount
- Enter the no. of rows you want. (Maximum = 6)
- After entering, Sign Out and Sign to see the change.

2) Set Border Size of Explorer

Directory : HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics

- Search for 'BorderWidth' key and open it.
- Default Value will be 15 ( You Can Change it to 0-50)

3) Change Vertical/Horizontal Spacing of Desktop Icons

Directory : HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics

- Search for “IconSpacing” and “IconVerticalSpacing” keys and open them.

- Open it and give it the value as 1.
- Close Registry Editor and open Start Screen.
- See the new hidden effect enabled.

5) Unlock The Windows 8 'Modern Reader' (PDF Reader)
Microsoft has developed a built-in Appx application to view PDFs.  Look out for the new name for this gismo: 'Modern Reader'.  To turn this feature on or off you can hack the Windows 8 registry; first navigate to this hive / key:

Right-click in the right hand pane, select New, String Value; label it precisely:

Copy and paste this value for CLSID:

6)Task Manager Disabled?

If you suspect a virus or group policy is preventing the Windows Task Manager from launching then check this registry setting:

Check the logic 0 (zero) means the the Windows Task Manager is enabled.  Numeric 1 means Disable TskMgr.

Note 1: If you are trying to DISABLE a Windows Task Manager then you may need to create a System folder and then create the DisableTaskMgr DWORD value.

Note 2: You need to reboot for this setting to take effect.

7)Enable the Old Start Menu in Windows 8
The scenario: You are in Windows 8 with its New UI.  Use the 'Search' to find the C:\Windows folder, search for Regedit.  Navigate to:

Change: RPEnabled from 1 to 0 (zero).

The old start menu appears immediately in Windows 8.  However, if you change RPEnabled back to 1 I had to logoff / logon before the Metro UI returned.
